Last week we had a pleasure to watch the annual EGR Awards. If you don’t know anything about this event, let us give you a short summary. The event was hosted at Grosvenor House in London, UK. As they say, “EGR Awards attract more than 800 industry professionals from the world’s leading online gaming firms”. So, it’s basically an annual tap on the shoulder for poker sites that did particularly well that year.
What’s different this year?
Well, after three years in a row, PokerStars was finally dethroned from the Poker operator of the year award. Yes, the winner of 2014, 2015, and 2016 Poker operator of the year award has lost to the underdog Party Poker.
Party Poker has had a rough couple of years. However, since then they have improved a lot, and they have an EGR Poker operator of the year award to prove it. Party Poker has managed to make a U-turn, and win back over their fans and players.
They have upgraded their software, revamped the live tour, restored the rakeback, and polished their tournament schedule, as well as made some minor tweaks to their services. If this is not enough to receive EGR’s recognition, then we don’t know what is.
However, the competition was not soft. Party Poker was up against 888 Poker, Pokerdom, Sky Betting & Gaming, and of course, vice champion PokerStars. Not only did Party Poker emerge as a winner in the Poker operator of the year category, but it also managed to take home the Casino operator of the year title. What can we say; well done and well deserved.
So, what are your opinions on this topic? Do you agree that Party Poker deserves this title? We know that these awards are almost entirely meaningless, but they do give some legitimacy and credibility to the winners.
